Things we still need done if anyone has some free time:

Well win2000 has code for winlogon which this was missing, hopefully it can eventually be updated to work properly so we don't need to use prebuilt winlogon.exe anymore
There might be more things in the 2000/NT4 code that are missing/removed from here too, not sure if anyone has looked into it much though

SYSTIME.C from NT 3.5 appears to be 10x the size of the version recreated from WRK obj's.

No idea if it's helpful or not - hope it might be useful though.

Looking at the archives, it seems the problem is I'm using Windows 7? I'm a bit confused as I assumed Windows 7 Ultimate x32 was recommended.
The first solution was to run razzle offline which I already with the shortcut.
Ran prebuild after that. Then bcz.
The solution posted from the archive is to use WinXP. Is this really the answer or am I missing a step?

Do you know where I could find the 3.5 src? I grabbed it when it leaked originally but not sure if I saved it, even just the filename might help.

Anonfiles link for it is dead now too, surprising since I never saw anonfiles remove anything before. Can only find that messed up one where someone changed a bunch of dates to 2000 to make it look like XP code...

Yeah there's a version of XP pro/home you can build using the win2k3 src, it's not build 2600 like normal XP but build 3790, like XPx64 is.
Everything seems to work fine with the server-pro build too, didn't notice anything missing from normal XP, but I didn't really look too hard.

That was probably the 'pro' sku of the 2k3 source. The 2k3 source tree builds XP Home and XP Pro as well.

So XP's sdktools\idwlog\ seemed to build fine under 2003's src tree, I only tried building by itself after main build was done though, maybe it errors if you try building as part of the main build?

sdktools\unicows\ keeps spewing this shit at me though, dunno what it's crying about

Damn, seems unicows error is some error with the lexer they use, unicows does a bunch of weird shit about thunking W calls over to A etc.
Apparently it was only really needed for 9x, since NT had the W versions, https://web.archive.org/web/20140625111010/http://www.siao2.com/2005/02/12/371650.aspx talks about it some more.
Doesn't seem like unicows is included in the build or the missing.7z, so I guess it doesn't matter too much

magnify.exe/mag_hook.dll for win2003, taken from XPSP1 code: https://gofile.io/d/GbyQ5g

mag_hook.dll seemed to match with win2003 bins, magnify.exe had a tiny change made to it, which luckily narrator.cpp in win2003 src had the code for, just copied that over and now bins seem to match perfect, besides a 0x40 byte difference that seems to be pdb-path related (I didn't compare chk bins though, might be a difference there but I doubt it)

You only really need to do a full-build once and then you can build things seperately by running bcz / bz inside their folder, in a way it already is separated, we only need the initial full-build because the dependency-detection stuff in here is crappy afaik

I worded that badly, it's code for magnify.exe/mag_hook.dll in win2003, based on XP's magnify code with updates from the win2003 binaries

built files seem to match with win2003 bins perfect, besides a 0x40 unused block that seems to be because pdb path is slightly different.
mag_hook didn't seem to need any changes, but magnify needed a few small things, luckily they made the same changes to narrator.exe which we have code for so I just stole them from that

I have gone through what appears at the start of build as missing.. most isn't present in the XP source but what I have found, copies over fine and builds fine (I went to folders and build the components after I already did a build.. so a clean test is needed) now there isn't much but it's something.. it's all untouched src because 'it just worked'

Seems defrag/dfrgntfs/dfrgfat has a couple changes in win2003 too, somehow defrag.exe is much smaller in 2003 (24KB vs ours at 72KB), looking at the bin it seems to have all the same functions inside it but looks like it's using a different C runtime or some shit, weird...

The ntfs/fat ones just have a few small things added, pretty easy to update, we actually already have some of the updated code in the XP tree, pic related

Late here so can't test right now, but I'll give it a try with a clean build tomorrow if nobody else has by then, as you said they all should work individually, but during clean build they might fail if something they need hasn't been built yet, could have to reorder some dirs files or something

I think sdktools\idwlog\ has that problem, built fine for me (after clean-building rest of the code), but someone said they had crtw32 errors with it before, guessing that was maybe during clean-build before crt stuff was finished.

Forgot to add, net\upnp exists in the xp src, but (unsurprisingly) it complained about external files (likely precompiled shit?) needed aswell as unknown flags.. several 'don't know how to make' errors

For compatibility reasons would it be best to try take all that from XP src, I imagine if its pulling a weird one with runtime it might cause some ballache, but then again if it ain't broke don't fix it for now.. we will find out tomorrow (late here too)

I got a clean build running overnight to see what it throws up will post that result in the morning

That could have been a fuck up on my behalf, I think I got the crtw32 errors because I accidentally copied over a bin folder from somewhere inside sdktools/supporttools

Forgot to mention lol, will recheck that my end tomorrow too

Ah think I figured it out, looks like they added USE_MSVCRT=1 to the defrag sources file, with that it goes down to 24KB at least but haven't compared it yet though

Yeah it is from the XP src, I'm just looking into the 2003 EXEs and trying to copy changes back into the XP code
If we can get all the stuff copied over and hopefully build a matching EXE to the 2003 one, it'll pretty much give us a 2003 version of the src, as long as we can get it to match it should be even more compatible than the XP stuff really

Then once that's achieved (along with our drop-in replacement for winlogon), progress can be made in comparing SP2 binaries against the RTM base we have.

Implementation of 2003 SP2 code along with enhancements/functions from NT6/10 would bring about a nice NT5.x environment.

Is there a way to possibly take xp's shell and add it onto windows server core 2008 or later? since there's no shell components in core it should be pretty somewhat right? If anyone knows any way to do this let me know.

So I finally got a clean build in with my unmod XP src 7z, along with latest files from guide

No errors, just a few warnings:
>net/diagnostics/netmon/sources.inc not found
>multimedia/reality/rl/ntrlty.mk not found

I can't see them missing files in the XP src with their direct paths, not sure if per chance else where in the source (or maybe NT4/2000 netmon is present in those sources.. checking this later if no one else does)

Has anyone had luck building under x86 win10? seen a few people try but didn't see anyone say that it worked.
I'd guess it should work fine seeing as win7 x86 works, hopefully we can get building under x64 to work eventually too so I can build on my win10 x64 without needing a VM

My first build on x86 Win 10 worked perfectly, I made a Pro SKU iso and Std server SKU iso (before I messed with src and had the errors I posted) so as long as you have paths (srv03rtm) set properly and all the pre parched stuff then it will be fine to build

Yes, I'm guessing that you said no to the "merge folders?" question when extracting/copying.
It is important to say yes to that.
(then after that, of course make sure to say no to overwriting the actual files, if there are any with the same names)

7 things isn't long anon, besides the only real technical things there are the stuff that needs reverse-engineering like systime/winlogon/directUI, all the other things are just time-consuming, anyone could probably do them if they focused on it.
Knowing the MS autist community I won't be surprised if all this gets finished before the year is up, there's already people building XPSP1 & amd64 stuff in private.

Yeah try importing it manually from tools\driver.pfx
Also make sure you replaced tools\postbuildscripts\crypto.cmd with the one from prepatched zip

Just the thumbprint of the certificate is different.
The crypto.cmd in the prepatched zip should work fine, since the thumbprint there matches the certificate it includes.
This file has the thumbprint from the first "toolset.zip" certificate, posted on 2020/10/02.

I just posted it in case he had that certificate installed.

Ignore the "doesn't work on windows 7" part of the post, I'm pretty sure that was just a misunderstanding on my part.
It's more of a "This version doesn't work if you installed the proper certificate" thing.

If you're using the build-win2k3 guide, prebuild.cmd should already take care of installing the certificate for you.
However, to answer your question, it should be trivial to write a simple postbuild script based on that portion of prebuild.cmd and add that to pbuild.dat before the other postbuild scripts to make sure the certificate is imported.

As far as I have seen, some tools are provided only as binaries. To get an agnostic compiler environment, you have to get the sources of all tools, in order to fix any compiler idiosyncrasy in them. When we want to build with anything newer than the compilers included in the leak/NTOSBE, we have problems because some of the precompiled tools don't like the output of the newer compilers.

Now imagine introducing something totally alien like GCC, which never was designed with PE in mind... This shit can't even do proper native SEH in its own. ReactOS guys workaround that by using an external SEH library... PSEH they call it, which in their own words... Is SHIT, and hard to maintain. And that's just the tip of the problems, as I said with that voodoo linker magic they have to force into GCC so the shit can output PEs with the sections with proper sizes and correct order...

Interestingly, they did lots and lots of user tests to land on the colors that Luna provided. Lots of research and development went into creating the final theme, whereas it seems that Professional was intended to be used internally, and included in at least one Beta Whistler release.

It's likely that they would have eventually released the theme, either as part of a Plus! package, or as a digital purchase.

They had a lot of those types of value-added promo marketing ideas for XP.

Well here's all the ones I could find, besides the incomplete royale noir, seems there's only zune, embedded & royale
Unpacked them and fixed them up so they can build like the other themes, and only use two INIs each (the other two INIs inside the msstyles will be generated from those), just extract into your source folder, then razzle into shell\themes\themedir and run bcz

Includes updated tools\placefil.txt so after building they'll be placed into binaries.x86fre as .mst files, haven't looked into updating layout.inx for them to actually be added to the CD yet tho, it's late here so if someone wants to look into that feel free.

I always build and install our Win2K3/XP3790 under real PC since 10/5, and even build it under itself.
For graphics drivers, Intel GMA 950, GMA X3000,
GMA 4500MHD and HD 3000 drivers worked unmodified.
You need kb888111srvrtm.exe to install HD Audio drivers. Most of them just works. Be aware to turn on Windows Audio service for server SKUs.

I didn't install Wifi drivers since 2003 RTM wireless auto configuration doesn't support WPA/WPA2. Ethernet drivers for XP works for me.

only 'mostly' because I couldn't get GetExtentListManuallyFat & ScanNtfs matching, decided to leave those as they were in XPSP1 as I don't trust my filesystem-code-writing skills that much.

The rest of it matches up well with the server2003 binaries though. defrag.exe was made to use MSVCRT which reduced size to 24KB to match server2003, as explained at >>78321284

defrag.exe should be a perfect match really, except pdb paths prevent it from matching perfectly, dunno why pdb path stuff is different, in server2003 bins it seems they were built from the start to use eg. "defrag.pdb", but ours seems to build with the full PDB filepath, then later overwrites it to just the filename, leaving a bunch of null/00's in its place... this is after going through binplace too, can't figure out why though, maybe there's an option to make it use just pdb filename from the start.

ah found it, adding this to sources file

seems to make it only output the PDB filename during link-time, no more nulled out chars, seems to help it match closer to win2k3 binaries but I doubt they used this flag really

x86-64 Windowses are based in 2k3 SP1 codebase. WRK source are also SP1, and are capable to produce x86-64 bootable kernels just fine. Would be possible port the changes in order to make OS core compatible with AMD64, but some important work would be required to recreate HAL and part of the loader components, as these aren't included in the WRK as sources. In any case, WRK kernel sources and objects would allow saving us worktime needed by the Kernel alone, a big step if you ask me.

Another unused screensaver called "dolphin". A clearly unfinished one, as it's buggy, has unfinished code, and is missing a file. With some work, I got it to compile and run with what its got. Only changes I really made were just getting it to detect one of the model files properly and get the mouse movement detection fixed.

that's actually a directX sample program called Dolphin. The missing files are likely included in the directX SDK of the era, as well as the XDK for the Xbox and Xbox 360. Strange to see it working as a screensaver...

They had started their work since Itanium days, which in turn had started as work for Axp64. They had moved all of it to 2k3 source tree when its codebase got ready, and freeze/remove any work made in XP tree when SP2 got released.

Windows XP Professional x64 Edition was based on Windows Server 2003 SP1.

I'm not sure about the x64 version of Windows Server 2003, however, I think it may have also come with SP1.

On the other hand, there was one 64 bit version available at RTM. That is the Itanium version. It does, however, require an Intel Itanium processor to run.
